Winter Approaches

It’s been so long since a human came near to this place that the animals here have never seen one.  A rabbit nibbles on clover nestled in the grass, hopping closer to the cathedral.  A pair of lemmings scamper over the granite seeking grass and sedges that have grown up inside the sanctuary.  Winter is coming and they will soon be mating.  The rabbit lifts his ears and eyes, keeping watch for predators on this chilly September afternoon. By the Light of the Silvery Moon

Dense fog winds its way around and between evergreen treetops.  At ground level a little rabbit nibbles green clover, sweet and wet with dew.  He watches and listens for trouble, the fog making it difficult to tell where each noise comes from.  Not being able to see magnifies the danger, each sense is at attention and his nerves are jumpy.
